Uppsala Marathon takes place on a single-loop course through historical settings, including the Viking graves in Old Uppsala, passing by the largest cathedral in the Nordic countries, with the start and finish at Uppsala Castle. The race offers scenic surroundings along the shores of Ekoln and Fyrisån, as well as through the center of Uppsala via the pedestrian street and the city park. The marathon and half marathon distances are sanctioned by the athletics federation and meet the criteria for an "Approved Race." All finishers receive a nice shirt and a sleek and beautiful medal.
Highlights
- Uppsala Marathon is environmentally friendly and avoids single-use cups, which means participants bring their own bottle or cup, or receive a free reusable cup.
- Runners are treated to an "after run" with music from students at Lundellska school and are offered grilled sausages (including vegan), coffee, and cake after crossing the finish line.
- The half marathon runs through central Uppsala with maximum audience contact and leads out to the Vikings' sacred site, the mounds in Old Uppsala.
